Supporting Athletes in Middle Georgia

Ever since its inception, Piedmont Orthopaedic Complex has been dedicated to giving back to the Macon and Middle Georgia community.

Piedmont’s current owner, Dr. Bill Barnes, has followed in the footsteps of his father, the late Walter Barnes, in giving back to the community. One of Dr. Barnes’ great interest is in helping local schools and high school athletes to recover from injury and get back in the game. For more than thirty years, Piedmont has been a big supporter of high school athletics in the area and was the first in Middle Georgia to provide sports medicine coverage to local schools. Piedmont athletic trainers cover all of the home football games and also provide coverage to the games and meets of many other sports, such as basketball, wrestling, baseball and more. Piedmont Orthopaedic Complex works with teams from all across Middle Georgia to ensure athletes have up-to-date sports physicals and that players are ready for the upcoming season. Piedmont also supports Jones County High School athletics, Mary Persons High School athletics, Peach County High School athletics, Twiggs County High School athletics and other programs.

Piedmont also supports the Macon Touchdown Club and is a primary sponsor of both the Macon Sports Hall of Fame as well as the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.

In addition to supporting local athletes, Piedmont also sponsors Macon Pops and a variety of other local fundraisers and is a proud member of the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce.

Community Outreach

Piedmont physicians and staff work within the community to offer educational seminars and events to help the public learn more about common conditions and the medical options available to them. In addition to hosting and participating in events for members of the community as a whole, Piedmont physicians and staff are also involved in seminars, information panels and round tables with other professional groups such as school nurses and coaches, professionals in the workers’ compensation field, attorneys who deal with medical cases, employers concerned with workplace safety, and others to discuss common issues and the best way to work together to provide a better experience for patients. These kinds of events not only enable us to share information about how we operate, they are an invaluable learning tool to better understand a variety of perspectives. Piedmont is dedicated to building and maintaining positive relationships with both patients and professionals involved in medical care to improve communication, efficiency and quality of care. Stay up to date on the speaking engagements of our physicians on the Piedmont Orthopaedic Blog.
