How many hours of sleep do you average each night? Sleep experts recommend between 7 and 9 hours, though Americans average about 6.9 hours. According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, approximately 70 million people in the U.S. have a sleep problem. Not only does lack of sleep lead to increased risk of heart attack or stroke, fatigue, weight gain, depression and more, but studies show that effects of this sleep loss costs the U.S. economy billions of dollars.
